Under the Weather

I haven't been feeling so hot that past few days. I forced myself to go to work anyway though and all told it hasn't been a bad week - I made pumpkin pie, we had a couple friends over for dinner, the baby chevron was well received, and I finally went to the other Madison Quilt Guild!

It just means I haven't gotten around to posting what I worked on last weekend yet.

Anyway, all 15 large blocks are now complete for Oh My Stars! Only 50-some odd medium and 100+ small to go...

Then, I got started on making regularish shapes out of my Grinch fussy cuts. Would anyone be interested in a little tutorial on my method? It's basically like a Y seam without the bottom bit. (Probably also know as a V...)

FWQ 4

We cranked up the heat this morning and I spent some time in the sewing room. (For the last few months it's been the coldest room in the apartment because we keep it closed off to save on heat.)

I fiddled around choosing fabrics and listening to terrible pop music on my laptop for quite a while. Then, something unexpected occurred - I actually got an opinion from my husband that the current selection looked good. :)

This pattern wasn't difficult to piece at all, though I tried to be careful about trimming as I went to keep things straight.

Just waiting for baby

Finally put this in the mail tonight! I'm really excited to hear about the new baby! (Although I hope the package arrives first...)

Here's one last shot of it, all crinkly and fresh from the dryer, just before I wrapped it up:

FWQ 3

Yesterday, I spent most of my day sewing. First, I finished the binding on the baby chevron. It's going to be washed this afternoon and photographed once more - stay tuned!

I also constructed another farmer's wife block.
This is one of the designs I wasn't too sure about - Basket.
I don't think I'll ever make a large applique quilt - just this little handle was enough trouble for me.
In fact, I decided that hand stitching it was bothersome enough that I would try sewing the top of the curve on my machine instead. I think it came out better than the lower curve which I did have to sew by hand.
(Although both look kinda wonky in this picture...)

Anyway, the finished block is cuter than I imagined it would turn out.

Spring already?

One of our Christmas packages included some daffodil bulbs. At first I thought I could put them in the fridge again, but they began to sprout anyway... crazy things. I decided I'd better just put them in a pot and let spring come a little early - at least indoors.

I've heard it will be snowy in Madison again this Saturday - good timing for the MadMod sew day! I'll be taking the baby quilt to finish binding and my Single Girl stack. I'm really excited to have all that time to work on sewing projects!

Oh, and I need to pick up a pattern for boxers as I thought that might be a cool Valentine's gift for my husband...

Packages!

Shortly after the holidays, I spent the most on fabric I ever have in one go. It finally arrived in the mail this week! Do you want to see?

Children at Play:

Basics to coordinate.
Prints I already had stashed.

Stash building:

An assortment of Pearl Bracelets by Lizzy House.

Denyse Schmidt - Single Girl:

New DS prints from Chicopee.

DS prints from previous lines (except the black dots third from top left).

Templates and pattern - ready to go.

This is the one I'm starting next! I still plan to buy 3 more prints (Shelburne Falls Deco Fans in Maple and Willow and Chicopee Dotted Leaf in Lime) so that in each ring there won't be repeats.

(Actually, not all of my purchases have yet arrived - I signed up for the Stash Stack again after skipping brown.)

Season's Greetings from New Mexico!

We're back in Madison now, but I had tried unsuccessfully to post during our vacation last week. So, a belated Merry Christmas to you and Happy New Year!
